"A lifetime of Dedication to Judo"

The "Samurai Award", as it has been affectionately known due to the samurai trophy, is a formal declaration of gratitude and appreciation for a lifetime of dedication to Judo, Martial arts, and the community.
​
There is no greater honour than the Samurai Award within the Merseyside Judo Association.
Shihan
Roughly translated as "exemplary teacher" or "teacher of teachers".
Kyoshi
Roughly translated as "master" or "master practitioner".
Renshi
Roughly translated as "master teacher" or "polished teacher".
Sensei
Roughly translated as "teacher" or "one who has gone before".
Master of Sport
The "Master of Sport " award may be given to those whom have excelled to a national or international level during their competitive or coaching career. This award is usually given to those whom participate in sports that do not use a Dan grading system. This award should be considered a Masters level and equivalent to a 5th Degree Dan Grade within the specified field of excellence.
Mudansha
This award is granted to those whom compete at a Dan grade level but have not formally graded in a Martial art system that utilises a Dan Grading system.
